Schmooze Not Snooze

I am a staunch proponent of networking (I like the word schmoozing). Getting your name out in the marketplace is the only way of being taken seriously as a writer.
One of the ways to market your talent is to take a writer’s workshop. The advantages of a workshop are two-fold:
· You get to network or schmooze.
It’s important to be with other writers. There are days when I wonder if am going in the right direction, only to find, through similar discussion with fellow writers, that I am. Writers inspire one another. They can also point you in the direction of a possible writing opportunity.
· You learn something.
No matter how talented I think I am, there is always room for learning skills that will improve my marketability. Currently, I am learning web design and content. I never thought I would ever have a web site. It was published in February of 2006. It has been and continues to be a labor of love fraught with equal amounts of frustration. The whole process continues to help me grow as a person as well as a writer…all because of a web design workshop that I was coerced into attending.
We all have varied interests. There is a plethora of writing markets out there to match our different interests, making writing a wide-open business opportunity. You may even want to try something totally different from your usual writing genre. I’m glad I did, it has created a whole new world of writing markets for me.
Take a writing workshop and stretch your gray matter. It will be a fun and inspirational learning experience guaranteed to tweak your creativity. So, get out there and schmooze, not snooze.
