Fixing the Criminal Justice System in the US

Few would disagree that the United States Justice System has problems. The prisons do not rehabilitate and criminals are marked for life. Meanwhile recidivism rates are astronomical and the courts are over crowded and many defendants do not get fair representation due to costs. That is to say they are guilty until they can pay a lawyer who can argue otherwise. So what can be done?

Well this topic came up recently in an online think tank and one member said we need mentoring programs and then stated; “Next, reform of the legislative process is necessary.”

Good luck. Hate to be cynical but, I sure don’t see it. You are talking about a complete over haul and it would nearly take a complete revolution, temporary dictator [hopefully a benevolent group of gentleman] and then start from scratch with a whole new system to run the flows of our civilization. The disruption could be worse than the present?

How can you have legislative reform when the legislatures are busy taking kickbacks from lobbyists and are perpetuating the whole problem in the first place? Well it is indeed difficult to figure how it could be done, but we know it must be done, if we are to straighten out our criminal justices system and legislative system. Think on this in 2006.
