Auto Industry, Lobbyists and the States Line Up for Gasoline Mileage Rules
Currently the Bush Administration is trying to put into place new mileage rules for SUVs and cars and the US Automakers are preparing to have a corporate battle in the United States Congress and the United States Senate. Meanwhile several states are suing saying that the mileage rules do not go far enough, while fuel price hike upward and are expected to hit some $4.00 per gallon by mid summer 2006. Why so high?
Well several reasons really; one the 2006 Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season is getting ready to pounce and this always causes issues or threats of possible supply issues, as oil commodity traders use that excuse to run up the prices in case of a potential shortage. Then there is the showdown in Iran, as Iran threatens to blow Israel off the map and continues to defy United Nations reasoning to stop enriching uranium to make the nuclear warheads to do just that.
The US Automakers on the other hand are having a tough go of it and are pledging to build some 4-million E85 Ethanol Cars next year and now they are getting hit with a huge mandatory rule to increase the miles per gallon ratings on all SUVs and cars. Needless to say temperatures are starting to boil over in Washington DC. Looks like a mini Civil War with all the usual players lined up; Lawyers, Lawmakers, Auto Makers, Oil Companies, Lobbyists and Consumers. Call it survival of the fittest, but do not expect fuel prices to drop anytime soon. Consider all this in 2006.
