Prepare Young Plants Before Planting

All seedlings need to be "hardened off," before planting. Hardening off plants just means introducing them gradually to the harsh outdoor environment. The best method to harden plants is to move them outdoors on a mild day. Hopefully on a mild and cloudy one. Leave the plants in partial shade protected from wind. Allow the plants more and more direct light and wind each day. Your seedlings are young plants and somewhat fragile, but they will thus become accustomed to their new home and better take direct sunlight. After merely a week the plants should be ready to take the rigors of being transplanted.
