For many the idea of a home based business online sounds very appealing. You get to set your own hours... You can come and go as you please… and there isn’t an idiot boss telling you what to do. It really does sound very appealing. But let’s take an honest look at what it really does take to make a home business work.
Many people getting involved in a home based business do so for many different reasons. They talk about how they don’t take direction well so they need to be their own boss. So they start their home based business expecting that it will be all good without really trying to understand the ins and outs or even how to run a business successfully. Many times these individuals go in with the wrong expectations and come to realize that they really are a 9 to 5 career type of person and that being a business owner is not what they’re cut out to do.
So before you jump into the home based business world here are just some realities about the entrepreneurial world to keep in mind.
Your pay is directly related to your performance. You must work everyday, especially in the early stages of building your home based business. If you don’t work then you don’t get paid. There is no such thing as a paid sick day when you run your own home based business. If you are the type of person that needs the assurance of a steady paycheck then don’t quit your day job and build your business part time until you are comfortable to transition completely into the performance based pay structure that a home business involves.
You have to do everything. One thing about being the owner is that it is your responsibility to handle everything related to the business. Home business owners wear many different hats. You will be the head of marketing, management, accounting, and IT. Everything will fall on you. This is a major responsibility. You will have to determine if you are willing to be all these things.
No one is telling you what to do. In a regular 9 to 5 job we have someone tell us what we’re supposed to do. When you own your own business no one is going to tell you what to do. You have to determine what activities you are going to do that will yield the greatest benefit to the growth of your business. Many times home based business owners will start doing things that have no direct impact on the bottom line. They’ll do stuff like order supplies or move furniture around or whatever the case may be. You need to have the discipline to go in everyday and do what needs to be done to generate revenue for the business.
These are just some things to think about before jumping head first and starting a home based business online. It is much different than the world of a regular job. Ultimately it will be up to you to decide if you are willing to pay the price and make these trade-offs for home business success. If you do decide that it is worth the price then don’t waste any more time and start paying it.
