Building Systems For Your Home Business
Getting started in a home based business is no easy task. It takes hard work and dedication and many times home business owners find themselves wearing many different hats and doing all the work. I recently read a book called, The E-Myth by Michael Gerber, and in the book he talks about how the small business entrepreneur becomes the business and ends up working day and night in order to keep the business going.
He talks about how the goals of the business owner should be to develop the business into a network of interconnected systems which free up time for the business owner to work ON the business instead of IN it. This should be a goal of every business owner. After all isn’t that one of the reasons people start a home based business. Don’t people want to have more time to do what they want? You won’t be able to free up any time if you are a slave to you business.
You need to have specific systems laid out for practically everything that goes on in your business. Write down the exact processes and procedures for following up with clients or hiring new employees. How will they be trained? Who will train them? What do they need to learn on the first day? All these processes in your business need to be documented so that when someone comes in they know exactly what they need to do and how it’s done in your business.
Having systems in place for people to follow will make your job much easier and will free up more time for you to focus on things that will grow your enterprise instead of being bogged down with non income generating activities. Hopefully this helps.
